Just had some great pulled pork with good smokey flavor. Delish even without sauce. The potato casserole and broccoli salad were tasty. Very friendly service in a small but cozy space with 6 tables. Server even gave us a small bag of peanuts to go. Will visit again next year when we're in town.

Great food and friendly staff. A bit disappointed that they were out of ribs by the time we arrived.

A small town bar-b-que with big taste. The food was excellent. I enjoyed the brisket and turkey. Baked beans were excellent as well. A nice surprise was the cheesy mashed potatoes. Unique and tasty. Very friendly staff. Please don't judge this place by the outside. A great meal. I'll go back if I'm in town again.

In my most recent trip from Wyoming to Oklahoma, I found myself driving past Hays, KS and starving. I was thinking I could make it to one of my favorite BBQ joints in Salina. It was then I realized I wouldn't be able to make the 100 miles or so to Salina, so I sought help from my trusty Yelp app and came across Johnsons in Great Bend. I quickly took the exit and aimed my car towards Great Bend. Mouth watering, I ordered a pound of burnt ends and a pound of pulled pork to go with the pint of cheesy potatoes and my free slice of sweet potato pie. All this was under $30 which is pretty fair. The service was pretty good and they had me back on the road in short order. As for the food, the pulled pork was really good. Usually pulled pork is my least favorite BBQ fair, but I really enjoyed Johnsons Smokey version. While the burnt ends were good, surprisingly I thought the pulled pork was better. A first for me simply because I LOVE burnt ends. The burnt ends were good, dont get me wrong, but they didn't have any bark at all, which is probably my favorite part of BBQ in general. That said, the flavor of everything was really good. The cheesy potatoes were delightful. Tasted like something my grandma would make. I had my cooler with me, and was excited to let my girlfriend try some good BBQ when I got to Oklahoma. She enjoyed Johnson's as much or more than I did. I've had some great BBQ in and around the Kansas area, and I wouldn't hesitate to make another trip to Johnson's in Great Bend, even if it wasn't right on my route. Well done.

Mac&cheese was good, broccoli salad was great, hot links were the best. The ribs were tough and not as good as I had hoped. Next time I will try something else. I don't like that they don't have fountain drinks. You have to buy 20 oz bottles of soda. Also all of the eating utensils are plastic and the plates are foam. I understand why it's like that I just don't agree that it should be that way. I will come back mainly because there really isn't much choice in Great Bend. I did get a free slice of sweet potato pie for checking in on Yelp!

Saw great reviews about this place - drove out of my way to get great BBQ however the place has a closed due to construction sign on the door with no indicatation as to when it would reopen. Bummer.

Great BBQ! Had the burnt ends and ribs. Loved them both, but would put the burnt ends ahead of the ribs. The coleslaw and cheesy baked potatoes are also very tasty. Definitely a place to come back to.

Quirky bathroom, but clean and functional . Disappointed with the brewed tea, had a fruity flavor I was not expecting. Prefer mine plain. Cucumber salad always good.

Johnson's has excellent barbecue: pulled pork, brisket, ham, etc. It has all the basics you'd expect from a restaurant of this type. The establishment is small with limited parking and only a handful of tables, but it is clean and the staff is very nice and friendly. The barbecue and sides are excellent and prices are very fair. Portion sizes are generous as well. This is pretty much the only choice for barbecue in Great Bend, but luckily its an excellent one.

My girlfriend and I were in town for the day, and when it came to ideas for dinner - I snuck in a suggestion for Johnson's. Seriously, when there is near universal praise for your place, I think it merits a visit. I love places like this, where you actually see the people in charge actually taking on an active role in it's success from the biggest things to the smallest. As is mentioned everywhere, the portions are big and the prices are reasonable and the food is genuinely delicious. Not only in terms of the meats and fixings but also the desserts. It's also one of the few places I could say my mom's Pecan Pie was -close- to being edged out for top spot on my list of favorites (I said 'close', Mom, so don't worry!). Also spent time talking with Dave and he was a blast. Really helped make the meal personal and friendly. Great Bend is lucky to have people like these investing in their community. Not necessarily just in terms of the food, but also the restaurant itself. I'm not in this part of the state too often, but whenever I do return I have to keep Johnson's in mind for a lunch or dinner option.

We were on the road and stopped for BBQ because of the good Yelp reviews. We weren't disappointed! Great pulled pork, brisket, baked cheesy potatoes, broccoli salad and delectable pecan pie! The service was quick and cheerful as well!

Good BBQ, I was sad that the ribs were all gone. That tells me they are good. The workers there are so nice. I felt that they really did appreciated that I came in. Update: the ribs are so good!!!! I was wanting those ribs.

Stopped in for a late lunch Friday afternoon. Split a BBQ Sampler with 5 meats and two sides. - cucumbers (yummy) and BBQ beans (okay) so we could save room for dessert. The pecan pie was gone, so we had the sweet potato pie - delicious! Nice, very friendly service.

Plenty of reviews on how nice these guys are. It's true, but the food rocks too. Great smoked ribs. Not dry. Good cheesy taters. Cool bluesy atmosphere. Truly great find.

Just left Johnson's with a bad taste in my mouth. No the food is great and I have always written good reviews, but when I pulled a hair from my sandwich I became sick to my stomach. It was obviously my servers, he was nice enough, but dude, no I don't want another. One hairy brisket sandwich is enough. Was surprised at no offer of a refund, but that was not what I was going for anyway, so no big deal. I travel to Great Bend every 8 weeks and have dined here 7-8 times. Disappointed that I will not be able to go back. Probably better for my cholesterol anyway, that hot potato side is too good to be healthy. Put this review on their Facebook page, but they didn't have the guts to leave it up. They also removed my good review before the hair was found.

We passed through Great Bend on our way home from San Diego. The food and service is excellent, very relaxed atmosphere. Our 3 year old daughter was uncontrollable, the owner went above and beyond to make our dinning experience enjoyable he managed to put her in a good mood so we could enjoy our meal. I ordered the 1/2 slab rib dinner and my husband got the Birdzilla turkey leg. Everything was moist and flavorful, so delicious. This restaurant is a gem, one of the best places in Kansas period. Nice rock n roll atmosphere. When ever I pass though here im stopping at Johnson's Smokehouse BBQ!

Ok seriously, driving through no where and come up on this town. Look up stuff on yelp and decide on BBQ or Mexican. Then we notice the yelp deal and decide to go for Johnson's. And thank god we did because not only was it an amazing deal (we all agreed after trying the food we would totally pay full price, even more!) the food was so good. Huge portions, amazing smoky flavor, great BBQ sauce. Even mentioned trying to be as gluten free as possible in their recipes, to the delight of my gluten free best friend. Also the guys working, total rad dudes compared to most of the weird stares and attitudes we got from a lot of other people. (Tattoos and short shorts on women! Oh my!) thanks Johnson's you were delicious!!!

Johnson's BBQ is the place to go when you're craving juicy, smoked awesomeness! Their pulled pork sandwiches are awesome, and the homemade cornbread with honey butter is a dessert in itself. They have all sorts of signature sides (I'm not a fan of spicy, so I haven't tried all of them) and all the ones I've tried are great. They offer catering and are very professional to work with. Stop in, soak up the eclectic atmosphere, and enjoy the mouthwatering goodness!
